It's All About Jon

Saturday turned out to be Jon day. It started at 8:00am with his Cross Country Alumni run.  This was his teams fundraiser and all the past and current runners ran together.  Since Jon has joined Cross Country all he does is eat.  Even he is amazed at how much food he is putting down.  Between this and Navy workouts my boy is going to be ripped!!!  And he is loving every minute of it!

Of course Jon is right in the middle of the group.  He can get along with anybody and always has a good time no matter where he is at.  This is how I know he will be just fine when he leaves next year.

Doing some warm up activities.  Jon was the only one in a hat so it was much easier for me to pick him out.

They did some kind of cheer/chant before the race.  I had to look around for a few seconds to make sure I wasn't at a football game.  I want to yell "this is just a track meet right?"

 On your mark

 Get Set

 GO!!!!!!!!

The course is really crazy so I won't even begin to explain how it goes.  But I was happy because Jon did run right by me.  Here is my question, what am I supposed to do when he passes me.  Should I have a bell?  Do I yell GO JON?  Do I just snap pictures?  This is a very new experience for me so I guess I will just wait and see.  But I will say that I am very proud of him for doing this.  His main objective was to stay in shape and use it as Navy training, but he is doing so well the coach thinks he will be one of their top runners!

He'll be coming 'round the mountain....wait....He'll be coming around the dead grass when he comes.....
Jon finished with a time of 21 minutes and some seconds.  I personally think that's great for his first 5K and because of the fact he has never really run long distances before.

As soon as the track meet was over we headed to Troy Park for his Navy DEP meeting.  Every month he has to meet with all the early enlistment guys and they have meetings.  This month the had a picnic and all the parents were invited.  I was excited that I got to see how Jon interacted with all the guys.  Surprise, he did great!  Like I expected anything else.

After the Chief gave his little speech Jon had to run again.  This was what Jon called the platoon run.  They all run in a double wide line and do their little Navy chant.  Jon had a smile on his face the whole time.  Most of these kids leave within the next 90 days.  Jon, so far, is the only 2013 departure they have.

They catered in Bully's then it was off to the beach volleyball court.  I think they were trying to reenact Top Gun but they failed miserably  : )

After the picnic we headed to the camper.  Jon was exhausted and was a little stressed when he found out Brady and Ben were coming.  But since they had the weekend off and Ben had yet to come up this year, the invitation was sent.  Jon got over it and  I had them all in bed by 9:30.  Of course Brady caught the first fish.

Ben caught the biggest fish.  Jon had to help him reel it in and  Brady was very proud of him.  After he caught this he got bored and we went on a golf cart ride that he said brought back memories for him.  I even let him drive.  Once Brady saw this, the fishing poles were put down and we spent the rest of the evening driving around.  First Ben then Brady then Ben then Brady.  I was excited when it started getting dark.

When I looked out my window at 6:30am Sunday morning I saw Brady at our lake fishing again.  I think he was killing time waiting for me to wake up so we could go on another golf cart ride.  I may have created a monster!!!
